Are You Ready for College?10 Steps for High School Graduates

Congratulations on graduating from high school! This is a huge accomplishment, and you should be proud of yourself. Now that you have completed this chapter in your life, you may be wondering what's next. Many options are available such as continuing your education at a college or university, entering the workforce, or taking a gap year to travel and gain life experience. It's important to take some time to evaluate your goals and interests to determine which path is best for you.

If you choose to attend college, here are some steps to help you prepare for college:

1. Accept your offer of admission: Make sure to accept your offer of admission before the deadline to secure your spot at the college.

2. Submit your financial aid forms: Fill out any required forms immediately. This includes the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which determines your federal and state financial aid eligibility.

3. Research housing options: Begin researching housing options on and off campus. Determine your budget and preferences, and apply for housing as early as possible to secure a spot.

4. Register for classes: Review the course catalog and register for classes as soon as possible. Make sure to meet with an academic advisor to discuss your schedule and ensure you're on track to meet graduation requirements.

5. Attend orientation: Attend any orientation programs the college offers to become familiar with the campus, meet other students, and learn about resources and services available to you.

6. Purchase textbooks: Purchase required textbooks and course materials before classes start.

7. Set up your student accounts: Set up your student email, student portal, and any other accounts required by the college.

8. Get involved: Join clubs or organizations that interest you to meet new people and get involved on campus.

9. Prepare for move-in day: Make a packing list, purchase any necessary dorm room essentials, and prepare for move-in day.

10. Enjoy your summer: Enjoy your summer before heading to college. Spend time with family and friends, read for pleasure, and relax before starting this new chapter in your life.
