As Christians, we believe God is our strength and refuge in times of trouble. And, yes, He is. Psalms 46:1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble.” We look to Him for guidance and comfort, knowing He is the only one who can carry us through difficult times. However, there are moments when we may feel like God is not enough, and we are often left feeling lost and alone. It can be difficult to find hope and inspiration in such moments. Many believers lose track of their walk of faith when they feel like they are not getting enough of God.
But what would make a Christian feel that God is not enough?
God’s thinking is not often the same as our thinking. The Bible in Isaiah 55:8-9 says, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” We often feel like God isn’t enough when we want Him to work according to our thinking, and He ends up working according to His plan, will, and purpose. He is a loving Father who always wants the best for us. He perfectly understands our needs and is faithful enough to provide us with good things. But, the things that He blesses us with must align with His will, plan, and purpose. God cannot easily give us something insignificant in our lives and His kingdom.
God’s timing is not often the same as our timing. We may devote ourselves in prayer and fasting to ask God to intervene in our situations immediately. However, this may not happen at the time we expect Him to intervene. It may take a little longer than we could ever imagine. But this doesn’t mean that He will not answer our prayers. He will surely heed our voices in due time. The Bible says in Isaiah 60:22 that when the time is right, the Lord makes things happen swiftly. Waiting on God for anything takes patience. We must trust His speed and believe He will guide us through our struggles. We must trust that God is working in us, even when we cannot see the results of His work. In times of despair and hopelessness, we must cling to God's love and faithfulness as we wait on Him to manifest Himself in His right time.
God may seem insufficient in our lives because He wants us to repent and seek His forgiveness for our sins. Isaiah 59:2 says, “But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear.” Our sins prevent us from having enough of God. They prevent our prayers from reaching the ears of the Lord. When we feel like God is just not being enough as we want Him to, we may consider confessing our sins and pray for redemption from the punishment of sin. God's love and forgiveness are unconditional.
As Christians, we should find inspiration in the stories of redemption found in the Bible. We read about men and women who faced insurmountable obstacles but overcame their struggles through their faithfulness. We can find hope in their stories, knowing that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He is still working miracles in our lives as He did in the past. His faithfulness is unwavering. He promises never to leave or forsake us, and we can rely on His strength and guidance in every situation. When we feel like we are not having enough of Him, we can trust in His promises, knowing He will always be with us even in the valleys of the shadow of death.
In conclusion, when we feel like God is not enough, we must remember to wait on Him with patience, rely on His love and forgiveness, find inspiration in Biblical stories of redemption, and trust in His faithfulness. Even in our darkest moments, God still works in us. We can find hope and inspiration in our struggles, knowing that through them, God is refining and strengthening us to become more like Christ. Let us remember that even in our pain and despair, there is hope and redemption in Christ.
